This unit is all about how homes have changed over time and from place to place. We tuned in by doing a book browse and watching some videos. Then we built or drew our own homes!
We started our new writing unit on Illustrations Styles by getting ideas from Mentor Texts (books we can learn from) and then started making our own. They are looking great!

The kids really impressed us with their ideas and actions, and it was amazing to see their faces when they witnessed the reaction of those they helped and were being kind too. Be kind and pass it on!
The Hong Kong Wetlands Park is not only beautiful but also full of great knowledge about migration, adaptation, and more. It was great!
As we wrap up another successful month in the world of 2JS, we celebrate a few more happenings, such as: Show and Tell (special thank you to the Technology Turtles for taking the pictures.), Literacy Rotations, Independent Reading (complete with reading buddies), day/night activities, hands-on spelling activities, spooky skip counting, visits from Halloween experts, and more! Make sure to look at the pictures with your kids and have them tell you all about them!
This week we had Lisa's mom and grandparents surprise the kids with books in not just one or two language, but three--English, Japanese, and Dutch! It was amazing how engaged the kids were by using the pictures on the pages to help me understand the story. And even though two stories were in Dutch and Japanese, the readers read with so wonderful expression, which also helped the kids to comprehend the story. So cool!
